Probably because DEATH as an entity is silly even for Marvel movies.
Instead they made Thanos sort of a P.C. villain. Yes, he will mass murder half the universe, but for ecological/population control reasons and he'll be impartial which some people find cool, even though it means a new born baby could vanish while someone on their death bed will survive (only to die anyway). Likewise, a mother of 5 turns to ash while a serial killer lives. Pilots on a plane might vanish, meaning everyone onboard who didn't disappear will die anyway in a crash. His impartialness is unethical...but then so is killing off half of all life. (or just sentient life?)

I missed it at the cheap seats, but I want to check it out. Solo was playing all week and I didn't go see it. I should start a new thread, "Stuff I haven't seen...." lol :-)

Wonder if the Disney people will be able to right the ship on Star Wars, TLJ split the fandom, then Solo flopped. A lot riding on the next movie.

People will want closure to the sequels, so it might not do as well, but will still make money. And it won't have a summer/spring release like Solo. After that, though, it gets shaky. Will they do stand alone or let it go until a new trilogy is made?
I'm not some rabid FIRE KATHLEEN KENNEDY type, but new management and creative staff is probably needed. They went into the sequels without a great overall plan, and it shows. It showed in the OT and Prequels, too.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE FALL-OUT - If you liked the other ones, this one is about the same (I say that not having seeing MI2 and 4). It gets almost campy near the end, over the top helicopter chase stuff. But it's not unusual for the franchise to push it, though.

THE PREDATOR - It's terrible. I mean in a fun way. I was entertained by its badness. There are laugh out loud moments. There's bad editing, bad acting, bad science, bad writing...some think this was director Shane Black (who was the first good guy killed in Predator) was intentional. There's no dramatic tension. Lot of R-rate violence (but only a little that's even horror level) and so much cussing that it's silly. Some of the intentional humor is good, other parts are just cringe-inducing. I'm glad I saw it at the cinema, but this was not the way to go with the franchise. This movie and Disney's purchase of Fox, are the end of the franchise.
What's not in the movie Edward James Olmos had a part that was cut. Early photos showed Predator's on an APC and in a humvee. NOT IN THE MOVIE. Parts of the end were reshot to take place at a night. We may never know the whole story...like so many troubled movies these days.

Good call. I've no regrets, there's not much out worth seeing right now anyway. Also, I'm such a loser I'd see any Alien, Predator, Star Trek or Star Wars movie.

That doesn't make you a loser bro. I'm the same way too, just probably won't see them till Netflix has them.

DISENCHANTMENT - Watched the first two episodes of Matt Groening's new cartoon on Netflix. I found it online. It's okay. Most of the first ep sets up the main cast and world, I guess. The first Simpsons are hard to watch now. And Futurama's first episode was just okay, too. So I'll keep watching as long as I can find the eps free.
STAR WARS RESISTANCE: The new cartoon. I don't like the style of animation used for the characters. I nearly fell asleep though the 1st episode. Lead young pilot character is annoying.

It seems like ages since I've watched anything new. My lady friend and I have been watching the Hobbit and LOATR, it's a new experience for her, she likes them :-)

VENOM - It was maybe better than I expected, but skippable at the cinema if you've got better things to do/see. Another billionaire baddie with silly motivations (we are all gonna be dead within a generation! Hollywood's doomsday science!). Tom Hardy pulls it off. Mid credits scene sets up obvious sequel. No Spider-Man cameo, but the end credits have a preview ot that upcoming Spiderverse movie.
5/10

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power - 3 episodes in. Not too bad. Catra is now a Thundercat, but also a fleshed out character. Bow is irritating and I dislike She-Ra's design, Adora is much prettier, actually. Madame Razz is comical in a different way than the original. So far Kowl is just a plush toy. Glimmer is like sort of Asian (yellowish skin, voiced by an Asian) but her mom Angella is I don't know what. Diversity without logic...seems to be the thing these days. Heck, it's just a fantasy show. Edit: So watched all 13 episodes and minor spoiler, by Princess Prom, the subtext is out the window, and it's clear this show is very LGBTQ inspired...or whatever. THe only significant masculine character on the show is Hordak. The effeminacy of Bow and Seahawk were too much. You can have strong female characters without making the males so nelly. That's the show biggest failing, that and She-Ra's design still kinda sucks. I understand reducing the Barbie doll look for a modern update, but why not replace it with something PRACTICAL, if She-Ra is the great warrior. It's still engaging and very watchable. Hope for season 2. There's no one here to read this post.

I've been re-watching the original She-Ra, actually. The mini-series Secret of the Sword is very well done. And the one thing about She-Ra, it expanded the lore. I'm not sure I can get into the remake, the sexual politics are one thing, but man, the designs are off putting. We shall see.

Some of the designs are bad. And some of the characters are as one-note as probably the vintage ones were. But I have no attachment to She-Ra. Like when they rebooted Thundercats. I rarely saw Thundercats back in the day, didn't air where I lived. That's how She-Ra was, until the USA Network showed it...well after the toys ended. Not sure I ever saw Secret of the Sword until a few year ago.
There's a lot of wiggle room to connect new She-Ra to a new Masters of the Universe. I think they took the wise route and let it be itself, rather than bombard too much lore and too many characters at once.
