Cyclonus in the Five Faces of Darkness mini-series sounds straight out of a prosperity gospel conman. "Give, give until it hurts." I do think he's a great character and one of the few voice work in season 3 that's any good.
A lot of the conbiners got a little story coverage in the cartoon, but the Protectobots did not. Basically, we need you guys, help! They had their own HQ and helped, but no story arch.
Grimlock became comedy relief, but when him and the dinobots were introduced, they were to be feared.
I find the Combaticons interesting because their personality cores were locked away. The episode were Swindle sells his comards, that's the last episode before the movie, I guess not counting Scramble City, which did not get a dub release.
The backstory on Omega Supreme is quite tragic. But he was seen as the one guy you don't want to mess with.

Man, I haven't watched Transformers in forever. I do remember Cyclonus...was like subliminal messages to kids, buy the toys till it hurts!!!
Dinobots are epic and my favorite Autobots, with Soundwave and the Casseticons being my favorite Decepticons....plus Shockwave. I love Soundwave and Shockwaves voices, and while Rumble and Frenzy are very chrasimatic :-)

The animation quality for Five Faces five parter was a joke. Once season3 proper starts, animation standards went back up.
The mini-series also repeats some tropes in the movie as well as repeats some of its own beats, like, several times Autobots space crafts are destroyed and they are left tumbling through space. I do like the idea that we see a redeemable villain in Blitzwing.
I think losing Starscream as a regular hurts, but I also understand things can't stay the same forever. New toys to sell, afterall. LOL

I liked the new Decepticon army.
Galavatron, Cyclonus, Sourge and Sweeps. It's simple, uniformed, and they look cool...the toys sucked, but there's 3rd party versions now that look like they walked right out of the cartoon.
Bonus cool Decepticons, Predaking, Abominus and Trypticon.
Autobots...nothing new really interested me. I liked the characters we saw in the movie...but that was it...oh wait Computron was neat...plus Mellisa Fairborne worked with them in the episode "Money is Everything."
Probably my favorite TF episode. Aside from the one with Old Snake.

Trypticon is a great homage to Godzilla, the king of monsters. Not a lot of autobots had they kind of neat design. I do think Omega Supreme has a slick design, but a lot of the larger ones are bland. The point stands, Decepticons in general had cooler designs.

My favorites are Soundwave, Shockwave and the Casseticons. Soundwave and shockwave have the coolest voices :-)

You might like this Felix, ReAction Unicron based on that horrible retro protype that never got made. I did see it up on Entertainment Earth a tad over 20 bucks.
