Saw it last night in 3-D. Thoughts: Definitely better than the last one. I was entertained from start to finish. The audience laughed at the jokes and was impressed with most of the action sequences. I had a blast. I smiled the whole way through. This is the treatment we've all been wanting. In fact, after the first five minutes I knew everything was going to be awesome SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAST CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of death. Cobra's and Joe's are still horrible marksmen. The Joe's get a new PITT and for a change, this moment in the movie reminded me of so many different settings in the original comic. Whenever the Joe's would go back to their old neighborhoods, they had a very real and gritty feeling. I had that when I watched this scene. Lady Jaye was smokin hot. Things nobody saw coming: "Destro, your out of the band." Roadblock is the new G.I. JOE leader The scene with the Warden was epic. So is Zartanz speech to the world leaders. My buddy and I were both making "Holy shit!" comments to ourselves during this scene. What surprised me the most was how well it held up as just a fun movie. Unlike the last one, I can't wait till this comes out on DVD so I can see it again Only bad points I noticed are some of the technical explanations that aren't technically accurate (typical movie flaw), and some costume choices (Storm Shadows & Fireflys). But none of that stopped the movie from being fun and entertaining, along with lots of classic ref references.

I saw it today. It's kind of terrible, but there's elements of a potentially fun movie in there, even if it seemed like XXX2: State of the Union mixed with typical satellite weapon plot ala Bond films/Under Siege 2. Part of the problem is both a dumbed down script and a "whaaaat?" moments, like we just cut to RZA's narrating as the Blind Master like we are supposed to know who he is. Liked: The Rock was decent as Roadblock, the problem with him as an actor is that he was too much of a personality before he went into movie acting, makes him hard to accept. The mini-tank vs HISS tanks....if only the toys looked half as good. Zartan launching the nukes, Pryce was having fun there. That there was an awe-striker like vehicle used. Cobra Special Forces, their realistic look...(why did no one in the know think it was odd they had captured 'Cobra Commander' but now had a spec ops team called "COBRA"?) Mocking North Korea...that won't be so funny if they really launch a nuke. London was toast...ouch. Disliked: RZA was awful, like even for a movie like this. Elite commando team that doesn't wear helmets or any head gear of any kind. Why leave Destro in the prison? (SEQUEL) The prison warden was like some yuppie douche bag? In East Germany? Whaaat? How's the trio get back to the US again? Stowed away on a plane? Willis felt like "where's my pay check?" I felt like "why not give this role to someone else?" (Firefly) Ray Stevenson's accent? What was he going for there? He seemed like good casting, but that threw it off. Colton's team of old soldier codgers that need no introduction. ??? The president calling them "GI JOES"...never the GI JOE TEAM, this made it seem like the script was written by a 6 year old. According to the credits Clutch and Grunt were in the movie and died.

RZA was epic, he should get an Academy Award. As far as classic Joe's getting killed off, it doesn't bother me. In my book, Clutch, Steeler and Grunt died a long time ago (Worlds Without End). Character introductions were most likely cut from the film, would love to see the directors cut

Some guy who was an extra in the film said a lot was cut. I can believe that.
Why exactly was Zartan hanging around some ninjas in yellow-face, just to steal away a young apprentice after framing him for murder? Okay...
It didn't help that I got splitting headache by the end of the movie. Then made the mistake of eating before that headache went away and had to make myself vomit last night. Retaliation, indeed!
It's funny is there was a woman, who had to be younger than me but at least 30, with her husband (?) and some kids (hers?) who was asking them "what's this G.I. JOE about?" Uh...yeah...I realize it was boy's toy but...get the fuck outta here.
I heard a kid saying "I want to see that, too" when WORLD WAR Z trailer was playing. Of course, World War Z is PG-13...another PG-13 zombie movie...get the fuck outta here.

I saw it yesterday with my kid. Definitely beter than last one. Even though I didn't see it in 3-D, the cliffside fight made me feel sick. I don't like heights. Headscratchers include: Why leave Destro behind? Why change Lady Jayes name to Jaye? We all know its Alison-Hart Burnett. How the hell is a black guy a traditional ninja master in Japan? Who the hell is RZA? Why destroy London? If you're after money & power England is too valuable a resource. Hmm..

Deleted scenes
^I see why that was cut. Also, note the secret service guy's name.
Jonathan Pyce gives the best performance of the film. Funny, because I thought his Bond villain in Tomorrow Never Dies was crap. Seriously, Cobra Commander should've been a wittier, but desplicably evil character. But that would require a real actor and a better script.

Only part of the second scene was cut. They left Zandar in, but cut the kid.

Oh boy. Yeah, the pre-screeners had it right. Roadlbock and Duke played great off of one another. Killing Duke was a mistake.
I got no issue with Flint or Lady Jaye. They were fine in supporting roles.
Storm Shadow's achievement of the truth is so stale. Didn't really care for Jinx having to prove herself.
Not a fan of Cobra Commander's voice or him glamor strutting in every scene he was in.
I did like the prison breakout. I don't know, the a-hole warden was an amusing bit character (kind of reminded me of the Cobra boss at the Cobra Rec base in Viper is Coming) and the setup reminded me of something out of Sunbow.

Killing Duke has always been a mistake in any version of GI JOE.

I watched this again on dvd. Clutch is actually called out on the first mission to pick the team up, not sure who he or Grunt actually are in this. I could swear that Storm Shadow handed Cobra Commander a gun and he shot Destro in the sleep chamber, but I could be wrong about that.
On the second viewing, I'm amazed at how well this movie actually plays out. After all, we are talking about a live action G.I. JOE movie here. It's still impressive to see actual big name actors in this; Bruce and the Rock.
Would have been nice if the ninja back story matched the comics, with the Hard Master being killed by an arrow.
I'm okay with Duke dying since it's the way it was meant to be back in 1987.
