I was never a huge RoboCop fan. I think I saw half the first movie in the 80's but then didn't see the rest of it until years later. So I missed out on the whole experience. On the other hand, I don't hold it up as something so great that it cannot be remade.
The remake is decent. It's not as humorous or graphically violent (it's PG-13) as the original. That's just not the direction they chose to go. The story lines are bit different, there's more focus on RoboCop's humanity vs his programming and his wife and kid. The broader story is about OmniCorp trying to get the government to allow robot drones to police US cities. See, in addition to big ED-209's, they already have humanoid shaped policing robots that are more efficient than RoboCop, because they are entirely A.I., but they can only deploy them with the military in places like IRAN. So RoboCop is created entirely for marketing reasons.
I paid early bird matinee price ($5.25) to see it. Worth that, but not any more. Or wait for rental. It's kinda the type of movie you'll forget about a month after seeing it.
