Damn, maybe Alf can really comment on the global struggle for freedom from Cobra.

I've found it elsewhere in years past but worse quality and since the quality of Dic is already weak.
I'm more interesting in character and vehicle usage on the show. The characters themselves are crap for the most part. So many speaking parts but generic voices and what can we say about guys like Bullhorn or Rampart? Non-entities.
1990 was a good year for relaunching GI JOE as a quasi-reboot, all new villains and heroes, a pretty well-rounded vehicle selection for both sides, but they ignored the new toy leader Overlord entirely (makes sense due to Operation Dragonfire) and used the first wave of 1991 JOES and Cobras, meaning we got familiar characters back but mostly with new voices. We also had LJ and Sgt. Slaughter hanging around, their most recent toy releases discontinued (in Jaye's case, years before, but they needed a token female). Instead of GI JOE A NEW GENERATION, it was like place holders until more of the "real Joes" came back.
And Cobra gets two token females, but Baroness is mostly mute in season 1.She got Destro back so she doesn't bitch as much. Night Creeper Leader, a non-toy character (until 1993) is left the wild card villains...the Zartan, if you will, but lacks the character to be interesting. Metal-Head fills the role of a bumbling Dreadnok more than Gnawgahyde, who might be comparable to a trashier Major Bludd. (I wrote Major Bluff at first...thre's a new character name!) Overall, villain intrigue and rivalry, a great aspect of Sunbow was almost completely absent from DIC after Dragonfire. Dic's Cobra is rather boring and pathetic. A viewer does the get the impression that Cobra's glory days were long past, and GI JOE is just kept around to deal with what amounts to a nuisance threat from Cobra Commander's increasingly lame schemes.

Yeah, Cobra feels more like Venom from MASK or the villains from Captain Planet. Menaces, to be sure, but not a real global threat. I do intend at some point watching complete episodes of DIC (forcing my way through), putting aside Dragonfire.
In fact, it almost feels like Dragonfire is a pocket verse and then DIC series regular is its own pocket verse. As we don't really carry over the characters and conflicts (Scoop, Alley Viper, Copperhead bitch slapping that goes on), Cobra Commander is no longer a snake man creature.
I think animation skipping over the rest of 87/88 took the air out of their sails and if you were a kid who collected different toys, never getting to see an animated version would be a bummer.

It always bothered me how the Python Patrol was created using Dragonfire, once Cobra lost the five parter, if you are a kid watching, well, that sub group no longer matters (the turning point in the struggle against GIJoe, yeah right, Commander!).

I am really digging the screen grabs and the reviews :-)
Hawk and Ambush...some things you can't unsee.
During this era, my thoughts were that the cartoon was crap...but I didn't care.
I loved G.I.JOE for the toys, and I still loved seeing G.I.JOE in cartoon format...and I was excited for
Red shirt sleeves Duke.
Storm Shadow spilled ink all over his outfit.
Ninja Force with stupid bright colored outfits? Yes please.
Captain Planet Eco Warriors Flint, where do I sign up?
Metalhead is the new unofficial Dreadnok comedy relief.
Sky Patrol, parachuting guys nobody cares about with chrome vehicles....hasbro must have read my mind.
Desert Scorpions, Range Vipers, Drug Addict Falcon....There's so much fun to be had.
Crimson Guards aspire to become Alley Vipers.
It's interesting how much the females from the original run appear.
Best thing is always Cobra Commander.

I do intend to get to the next episode, but have been watching some other stuff (such as Thundercats).

I just learned something today. Pythons are NOT native to South America, they are found in Africa and Asia. So Cobra Commander's creation of Python Patrol in Operation Dragonfire is...questionable, because weren't they in South America? So it should've been ANACONDA PATROL or BOA CONSTRICTOR PATROL. It gives me an idea for a short funny photo story, but I'm too tired and lazy to make those anymore.

Well, my counter would be... Copperhead in Worlds Without End got transported to the DIC verse and some things are different there, like pythons being were the DIC CC found them.

Some Dic re-edited with Sunbow music. Interesting. Unfortunately the dialogue still has some Dic music left in it.

Yeah. The Locust is very roomy for a one-man copter.

5:36 Short-haired blonde Cover Girl in green. Yet, brown hair Cover Girl was seen earlier. Hmmm...

Also seen next to Steeler, an abandoned idea from the Sunbow bible was to have them too romantically linked if I recall correctly.
Good eye, Bravo, seen Revenge a zillion times, never noticed that before.
