I didn't see Empire until after ROTJ. How on earth could Lucas make Leia Luke's sister after producing Empire, it's absurd.
That's one reedit I could handle in ROTJ...Vader taunting Luke:
Your feelings for them are strong, especially for...the prin-cess.
Soooo, you are in love with the prin-cess....your feelings have betrayed her too.
If you will not turn to the dark side, then I will kill her too.
Of course, now there's the prequels that show they're related for absolutely no fucking reason.

IIRC, I read that an earlier idea was Luke would go over to the dark side in ROTJ, and the next trilogy involved finding Luke's sister (who was certainly not Leia) and the Emperor isn't defeated until episode 9.
I can't recall if Han or Vader die...I think Vader would've died and Luke replaced him.
Of course, Lucas and his lackeys deny there were ever plans for Episodes 7-9.
