*Long post, sorry*
In G.I. JOE news, I dug up my 12" Sideshow figures and have been putting them out on display, which has been a lot of fun, but I also remember why I got sick of these figures, they are simply a lot of work to get to look good. I'd say 95% of the figures have needed customizing to look more accurate, not even exactly accurate, just more accurate. I'm not sure how far down the rabbit hole I want to go with this anymore.
I'm basically at a crossroads in my toy collecting ventures and I no longer have space for everything and I don't know what to get rid of. I can probably keep 2 collections, I'd really like to get it down to just one, but if I can get it down to at least two, that would be better. I thought I knew what I was going to do, but I'm just not sure anymore...
I have:
Star Wars
G.I. JOE
Transformers
MOTU
Star Wars: I'm trimming that collection down no matter what. This seems like the most likely culprit to go because of my lack of interest in the entire franchise these past few years, from the prequels to present day, the new stuff really hasn't sparked any interest for me.....but when I'm sorting my collection out, and I look at my Millennium Falcon, vintage Luke, Han and Chewbacca, it seems almost impossible to let it go. I wanted the starships since I was a kid, and now I have them *sigh*. It's a tough call. It's worth noting the only place to really have a nice display for this collection is in my upstairs loft, I tried to display it in the downstairs TV room, but it just doesn't work very well. My Star Wars collection is based more on vehicles than figures, so it unavoidably takes up a lot of room. And as I get older I feel like space ships seem more and more like toys, it's hard to make them look like they're flying through space unless you have a black room.
G.I. JOE: I was certain I was going to abandon this hobby. There's nothing new I'm interested in, so a complete lack of media...although I do like the comic rereleases and I have been keeping up with those. New toys are non-existent for me, except for 12" or 3 3/4" custom projects, kind of fun still, lots to do and keep me busy in that regard. All my small Joe's fit into one bin, easy storage. The big Joe's take up the downstairs TV room. It's surprising how well this works with the way my house was built. As I mentioned earlier, it's important to note the big Joe's are a lot of work, but they do look cool when you get them to look just right. Downside is there's no way around it, it's a doll collection. Also displaying them can be a pain, they do not always stand well on their own, not a deal breaker, but worth noting. It fits in with what I said earlier about them being, "lots of work to make them look good".
Transformers: I only have a recent interest in this, because a lot of the toys have looked really good to me. I should have probably resisted any temptation, I just don't have the space. I could keep this if I really want to because my collection is small, but I feel like I'll probably get rid of it. I'm just not that into it aside from a few favorite characters. I've pretty much already written this lot off, the real battle is between the other three categories.
MOTU: Another relatively recent hobby, only within the past year or so, but I've found it a surprisingly very enjoyable collection. It's a plus that if I don't want to display them, they can all fit into a bin easily (makes cleaning and dusting easy). This display has been in my upstairs loft, where I sleep. There's no real official media with this hobby that interests me. I don't need to go back and rewatch the cartoons (maybe I will), I just think the toys are fun, and with the rise of popularity with some fantasy movies and TV shows (LOTR, The Hobbit, Game of Thrones), this collection fills that void for me (it's close enough). I can also see myself making customs to go with this scale of classic Disney cartoons like Peter Pan, and maybe some others.
Alright, that sums it up.
At the moment, MOTU is in the loft and the Joe's are in the TV room. I am really interested in anyone and everyone's opinion on this. Bravo, that means its really up to you since nobody else really visits here anymore. Any feedback is much appreciated, thanks.
