So, for my money, The Gods Below may be the worst Sunbow episode.
Boring premise. Cobra Commander not really at odds with any Cobra personality, which is the fun of Cobra screen time. Its just him, Baroness, and I think Scrap Iron. The animation locale, sand and brown everywhere. The Joes spend most of the episode in Crimson Guard outfits. We want to see the Joes as they are. Blah. Boring and uninspired. There's much better episodes where they touch on supernatural things.
The big problem I have with the Primordial Plot is there's a lot of bad animation. Clearly a rush job. It is interesting that the Crimson Guard are union, though. Cool to see the eating area of Cobra troops, but there's much better cartoons that make use of dinos. Gung-Ho is always ok to have around because of his reactions to things.

Funny both those episodes break the usual male-female characters pairings, Duke with LJ and then Flint with Scarlett. Not that there's any romance.
GODS BELOW: No regular troopers, only CG's. They piled on Stingers in one shot, like if you were a kid and didn't have enough vehicles. Why is CC on a camel?
The Joes were fortunate to be in the cargo trucks that weren't blown-up. That, of there's some dead Joes back at the ambush site. Barbecue but no Dusty?
LJ can read hieroglyphics.
One of the tied up CG's looks kinda like Agent Faces. CC doesn't remember that all the guards he sent were MALE.
Barbecue was the only one to use a gun against the supernatural monster, after letting Duke get fried.
Set's whole plan was to have Cobra remove the treasure and then the world would end, but couldn't archaeologists do that with GI JOE or anyone never knowing? Of course, it makes less sense he attacks the Rattler so close to the tomb, making it obvious that removing the treasure is the cause of the storm, etc.
"Well, BOW-WOW." Duke calls it. A Dog of an episode.
PRIMODIAL PLOT:
"We paid everybody off!" The realities of expeditions...pay offs.
Bone collectors are desperate men. They use ground attack jets. I guess.
Just break through the window with the FANG...seems very risky, but whatever.
Airtight would seem to be a star in this odd episode since it seemed like they need a science guy....then he does nothing else.
They really worked Deep Six and the SHARC into some episodes.
And SKY STRIKERS. The Joes can't go by helicopter or parachute in.
Gung-Ho's got some primal urges to satisfy and you don't want to know what #3 is.
CC calls the Twins "Destro". He probably calls a lot of people Destro.
Cybernetic control discs? What happened to High-Freq?
Joes shoot something living?
"Humans taste terrible" So many innuendo lines.
CC: "Then perhaps I should feed both of you to them! Hahahahaha!" The scientist and Destro look at him like he's crazy.
Gung-Ho vs The Commander or Chris Latta talking to himself.
There's a lot of running up to people and tackling them in this episode.
"...Can suck eggs as far as I'm concerned..." Flint gets totally assholish on the professor. All these super weapons and plots are finally getting to him, maybe Flint needs a vacation. *snicker*
Yeah, sloppy, unpolished episode in terms of animation.

Yeah, that had to be a script error giving Destro command of the Crimson Guard. It was very noticeable in that ep. Blah. Sloopy, sloopy.
