Dragonfire is an Intergalactic Classic. Extraterrestrial life has low standards.
"Quality of first episode is very bad, but improves afterward." As in, first episode isn't really watchable. BUt I'm bored, so.
It's funny how half-assed it is at times. The switch back and forth between Sunbows stock music and Dic's on subpar soundtrack. Only 10 voice actors and half the speaking roles are done by Maurice La Marche, I think. The recap opening episode 3 lacks narration at first, like they forgot and didn't want to call a voice cast member back to pay them but then did, but not enough to cover the whole recap. And Copperhead's clones operating the hovercraft. I forgot Mutt even speaks, but just for one episode. That's the level of consistency, like how Zarana doesn't speak after the first part besides a scream.
The highlight of the miniseries is the look into the lower command levels of Cobra with Scoop, Alley-Viper and Copperhead and the sort of mix of treachery and "friendships". That doesn't happen too often. It could be better, but at least it's something.
They get Stalker's toy weapons right and Alley-Viper's, too. But none of Gnawahyde's gear.
We never learn why Cobra blew up Scoop's parents' home. Surely there were better ways to insert a journalist into GI JOE.
The deer skull antler mask used to activate Dragonfire reminds me of these paranormal stories of similar looking weird masked people or entities.
Slaughter tells Stalker to SHUT-UP. RUDE! Slaughter also tells Scoop he'll be court martialled. That's pretty serious especially since Scoop is a civilian.
Where did Cobra Commander get the scientific stuff in the jungle temple? No other cobra forces had arrived and I guess GI JOE left it, despite not understanding Dragonfire yet.
I do hope Super 7 makes snake-man CC. Because Hasbro never will.
So where do all these Python Patrol uniforms come from? No other Cobras arrived before Serpentor shows up. Does the dragonfire change Night Viper uniforms into older cobra uniforms but pythonized? It does allow disguised Low Light to be singled out by vengeful Alley-Viper later.
Part 4 is mostly Cobra centric after about the first five minutes. It might be unique in that regard.
Gnawgahyde suddenly has a pet iguana. Because.
I like that capturing 3 Conquests, with one shot down, now means COBRA has a few squadrons.
Dic is so cheap aht when the cobra mothership lands in the desert canyon, they reuse the landing strut deploying from the previous episode, jungle background and all!
Spirit's voice is so generic.
The Radar Rat shows up so that it can be useless because Python Patrol is radar invisible.
They found a use for that extending radar thing on the Razorback.
When you have to montage an ending. FAIL.
