The Nozone Conspiracy
So this episode is basically a redo of Money to Burn. Cobra creates a problem, then offers the solution to society. The Sunbow version is much stronger for serveral reasons, but I don't hate this episode. The snow featured in this episode makes things a little more lively than some bland prior episodes.
Cobra stealing a bunch of shaving cream, complete with gags.
Sub-Zero is the lead of this episode, which Sgt. Slaughter as the supporting roll. It is nice to here Sarge's voice work. I also like the winter gear they gave him. They show up in Sky Patrol Sky Hawks. So, the idea of subgroups has been cast aside and we're just featuring the toys. hmmmm
We got some of the DIC usuals in this Joe figures out Cobra's plot scene: Ambush, Grid-Iron, Bullhorn, Salvo. Pathfinder falling out of favor? Bullhorn is kind of the 'smart guy' but he's so generic. They all are. So, Cobra is going to use a chemical to destroy the ozone layer. This room and winter gear gives me The Thing vibes. Ashame they didn't go for a third party problem ala the Germ. Thing that'd be cooler given all the snow scenes.
The Cobra scene explaining their plot uses the same ozone/earth screen, pure laziness. Zarana gets alot of play this episode because she's the lead saleslady for this nozone stuff Cobra is gonna sell. The Cobra are taking notes. Baroness is here, but mute. Randomly a Range Viper and SAW Viper among the Undertow troops.
So, we get a series of corny commercials promoting this stuff and the real reason for the episode, someone on the writing staff wanting Zarana fan service. I'm not complaining, however, I feel like Zarana has lost her edge from Sunbow. She seems very toothless. Metal Head does get slapped. Gnawgahyde looks VERY dumb without his hat.
The Cobra snow base is pretty cool and we do get to see some Snow Serpent 2's in action. There's even a veration of Firefly melting ice from Money to Burn here.
So, Cobra Commander is out selling this stuff with the only two Dreadnoks that exist in DIC. Two things, two people does not a gang make. Cobra Commander would not/could not be doing this himself. That's why the Twins and Extensive Enterprises existed, to do the legal side of things. In Money to Burn, the long line of people, the scene was there to show how desperation makes normal people act rashly. Here, its just a dumb scene. The billboard makes CC look like Darth Vader. So, this is beat for beat Money to Burn, Joes use Cobra's commercial activities to figure out where the base is. Cobra Commander does the anime eye squint thing when he's leaving. Why can't police, military, someone just artist him? Being all exicted for money seems beneath him. In Sunbow, he valued money, but not like the Twins or Dreadnoks, he only cared about it because he needed it to run Cobra.
A showdown between Ambush and Metal Head and Zarana splits when things get intense. She's not apart of the action at all. The stuff between Sarge and Cobra Commander, which should be a huge showdown is VERY poorly animated. Reminds me of the CD Zelda games.
Sub-Zero prevents the balloon from popping and the joes safely depose of it.
The episodes ends with Cobra Commander trying to not lose his temper as the nozone muck is all over the base, but he sees one final commercial. Zarana changes from her clothes to the swimsuit. Someone wanted alot of sexy time Zarana, man, looks like a scene that could be a b-movie or a porno. LOL
Overall, I like this episode. The humor and fan service adds to it. Snow keeps some of the scenes lively and with energy. Sarge also is welcomed as opposed to generic Joe 3 or 4. Sub Zero has no real personality. And this is pretty much a 1 to 1 remake of Money to Burn (a much stronger effort, of course), but all the same, I can say this is probably top 2 or so of all the episodes I've watched so far.
3ish out of 4. Being generous. LOL
