Very good popcorn movie, in my book.
This isn't like X-Men movies with Wolverine eating up the screen time, while the rest get pushed aside. Every member of the team gets their own plotline and moment. Iron Man doesn't steal all the glory.
I read Marvel orginally wanted Black Widow cut and Joss Whedon replied to them that it would turn into a gay cruise without her. He won that battle. I quite like Black Widow here. Joss' screen play serves her well. This is the guy who made Buffy, so its understandable the lone female character on the team would benifit from his writing.
This is also the first time I've liked Hulk on the big screen. The tension that builds as to win Bruce will turn into the Hulk is good. There's plenty of Avengers vs Avengers moments. Loki shines as a prisoner on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Stan Lee gets his usual cameo.
Highly recommended.

Man I want to see this. I doubt it will look very good at my local theater, just hoping it comes to DVD soon. Did you see it in 3-D? I have yet to watch anything in 3-D.

No, I just saw the regular version. Last 3D movie I saw was Tron Legacy and only because when we got there, it was the only showing. I'm over the whole 3D stuff, honestly.

I finally saw it today, and my first movie in 3D, in short I liked it Black Widows boobs look awesome in 3D. I liked when Hulk punched Thor, actually everyone in the theater laughed at that one. I prefer how the Avengers each got their own movie before getting thrown into a team movie, and all the original actors except Hulk returning, which was fine. I was thinking an Iron Man suit for Captain America would have been cool. He seems a little underpowered compared to the rest of the team, but it all worked out. I liked the Agent having the Captain America cards and being his biggest fan, lots of good moments.

I haven't seen Captain America, Thor or Iron Man 2. Well, 10 minutes of Thor, while waiting for another movie last year. The character never interested me.

Thor was pretty good. I think that Actor would have played an excellent Anakin. For one thing, he's actually tall enough to be Vader. Plus, there was actual chemistry between him and Portman. I've never known much about any of the Avengers except the Hulk... he turns green and big when he's angry...you won't like him when he's angry.

I'll rank the Marvel Studio films...
1. The Avengers - This had everything.
2. Iron Man - This is really the only character Marvel has successfully elevated via their movies. I enjoyed the first half where Tony is fighting terrorists more than the second half, where he is fighting an evil business man. So many superheroes get swallowed up by their own internal universe that its hard to believe they actually have an impact on anything involving an average person. The scope seemed larger here, more of a true global heroe.
3. Captain America: The First Avenger - They combined Superhero and period war film together. That's pretty sweet.
4. Iron Man 2 - This movie has alot of flaws, depressed Tony and a lame final showdown, oh and alot of setup for the Avengers, but it has its upside also. The Black Widow had a nice hallway fight scene. Whiplash has a fun personality. And War Machine gets some time in the sun.
5. The Incredible Hulk - I think this was more a proper action film compared to the Hulk movie they rebooted from. It helps that Hulk has a big monster to punch around. I never found Hulk vs the military all that compelling.
6. Thor - I do think Portman and Hemsworth worked well together, but that's more what they actors brought than anything from the script or direction. The movie is very limited in scope. I don't like how ethereal Asgard felt. The green screen of doom type stuff that makes locations not look real.

Saw it today since I had the day off, and it's 90+ degrees out. I enjoyed it. Iron Man: Robert Downey Jr. makes him entertaining, rising above the fact the armored hero himself is CGI. Captain America: a stick-in-the-mud, the opposite of Evans' Human Torch. Proves he can act. During the final battle they had to have Cap loose the mask, which was good in this case, because it looked cheesy. Black Widow: Overly capable female...it gets hard to believe she gets tossed around a lot for a non-super human and is still in fighting form . Scar-Jo it hot, but I'm not sure I'd have included Black Widow as the needed female, though it made sense to since she was in another movie already. Hawk-Eye: Meh. He was okay for what he was. The Hulk: The new Banner was great, the Hulk himself still strains my sense of disbelief even with better CGI. At least they didn't make him too huge. Stan Lee in an interview said he thought they made the movie Hulks too big. I agree with him. (Especially in Ang Lee's The Hulk). Thor: Decent. The character and his dialouge are inherently silly, but they come across as best the can. I was never a fan of the character, so I was glad he was acceptable. Nick Fury: Samuel L. Jackson just seems like Samuel L. Jackson anymore. This version of Fury was based on him and has been played by him, so it seems like he's playing himself. Not bad, but at times, felt a bit flat. Loki: Never one of my favorite villains in the comics. But Tom Hiddleston manages to be quite effective on the balancing campy and menacing aspects. Harry Dean Stanton: Was awesome as some security guard. The Aliens: Uh...were they robots or cyborgs or what? Anyway, who stayed for the credits sequence and the post-credits sequence?
