So, I was reading comic summaries for the new issues, and I guess it turns out (MAJOR SPOILER!!!!)
Billy died (moment of silence). I'm surprised he got killed off. Hama must have been having a bad day. Maybe he was bummed Hasbro never made a figure of someone he created. It seems Hamas stories are using the most odd characters ever: Crystal Ball, Darklon, Sneak Peek, and Blue Cyborg Ninjas (I didn't make that up!), you get the idea. That, and he seems to always bring back the dead: Darklon, Sneak Peek, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Dr. Mindbender, you get the idea. So Billy dies, there's a whole funeral and everything, and I can't wait for issue where Billy comes back, because he had to fake his death for no stupid reason.
I remember when the cartoon was cancelled and while I was at the local gas station I saw issues #63 to #66. I was blown away. What a great time to pick up the comics. I had seen the issues before, and skimmed through them rarely. I always chose to save my money for the toys verses the comics. But at that time, I was like a junkie that needed a fix! So the first issue I read (#63), Cobra Commander was back, albeit from an imposter, but that was good enough for me. It was also neat to see older characters in regular use despite not being produced by the toyline anymore (something the cartoon would always do). There was Ripper, Torch, Zartan, Baroness, regular Cobra Troops and older vehicles like the Hiss tanks, Stingers and ASP's, mixed in with Mambas and the POGO
Then issue 66, holy shit Snake Eyes is actually being used and Storm Shadow and they're fighting on the same side to save Stalker, Snow Job, & Quick Kick (basically all the older characters I liked which the toyline and cartoon had forgotten). The action just built up into the Cobra Civil War, everything was great for a while.
I guess I was hoping those comic summaries would entice me to want to see some of these stories like the older ones did, but I'm not getting that reaction. Like Star Wars, I didn't wait 20 years to meet Jar Jar Binks. For G.I. JOE the big return, lookout it's Sneak Peek and Darklon at it again! WTF?!
