And here I was starting to doubt that 2012 would be the end of the world...
Disney...never a Disney fan really...but at least it's something. Wonder how the scrutiny of what Star Wars toys Hasbro produces will change, increase or diminish. Lucasfilm has been nitpicky about stuff.
Will Episode 7 happen or will they say "Hey, Ewan McGregor's ten years older now, slap on aging make-up and he can play Obi-Wan again in an episode 4 remake..."

I'm exicted.
Look at the Pirates property. Great script, fun lead. Marvel movies are good now that they are in the Disney bubble.
I think Star Wars needs to get beyond the Skywalker family. That's my opinion.
I know the hardcore types worry more EU stuff will become void, but come on. Lets worry about making Star Wars good again instead of just being this nitch thing only snobbish fans like.

My mind is they go for recognition beyond anything else, since everyone in the original trilogy is old now, that tells me REMAKE.

That seemed rehearsed.

I think it is in good hands. The only downside is Disney errs on the prudish side, and you probably wont see stuff like this in the future: Or support for Family Guy or Robot Chicken Specials.

Yeah, would Disney have been okay with Slave Leia even? Not at that time. It's hard to envision a female producer being able to come up with ideas like putting the princess in a skimpy bikini and making her the sex slave of a giant worm. On the other hand there's all the crazy subliminal sex shit in Disney animated movies.

So, it sounds like its JJ Abrams. I guess Trek 2 will be his last Trek movie, he'll just get producers credit going forward with that.

I find him overrated by his fans and overhated by his bashers.
The "reboot" Trek movie was watchable, but not great. There's really only two great Trek movies, 2 and 6. And I'm being generous to 6. Part of the thing is the Trek movies relied on familiarity with the crews from the tv show, and with NuTrek they have the old character names, but really are new characters...will we really get to know them/care about them over the with a movie released every 3 or 4 years? Especially the lesser players?
Cloverfield was okay. I've never had a desire to rewatch it. IIRC, the first 30 minutes are bore.
Didn't watch Lost past the first episode. Just seemed like it would be a drawn out frustrating mess. I get the impression it was.
Watch a lot of FRINGE, and it was decent.
Anyway, I'm hard pressed to think of anyone I was rooting for to direct Episode 7. Anyone I can think of has had a low point in their career. So I'm open minded to Abrams.

I found the Trek reboot to be very Star Wars-ey. They even had a sort of 'everyone gets a medal' bit at the end. I probably liked it better than you did, but yeah, Trek's secret is its built on characters, not plot.
Does anyone really love Qui Gon or Anakin? The best character out of Eps1-3 was Jango, and he was a minor villain included as a plot device. Star Wars Ep7 needs a great lead people will root for.
I also would perfer only one cameo from the old crew, either Luke or Han, certainly not everyone. Pull a Rocky 6; let Leia be dead. I have no desire to see Carrie Fisher on screen. She looks bad.

I don't agree, though I think they could go too far with focusing on the aged OT cast. If I had to pick one, Luke is the essential one. Or at least he should appear in one of the 3.
I'd probably grant Ford's wish and kill Han off, preferably on screen. He could be the martyr (Kenobi) for the first movie?
There's the prequel actors. I heard that Ewan McGregor wouldn't mind returning. Whole big problem there...aged to be old Obi-Wan as a ghost? Too awkward.
Also, heard something about Ian McDiarmid (maybe that was just fanboy rumor). That would only work for me only as a holo recording. I don't want them to fudge the ending of ROTJ by having Palpatine live on ub any way, even in spirit form.
There's also C-3PO and R2. IIRC, in the supposed 3 trilogy that Lucas denies existed, both were to be the only characters in all 9 films.
Part of me is still not believing we are actually getting sequels. LOL.
