NO REAL SPOILERS
Saw this today, was gonna see IRON MAN 3, but the theater lot was so empty I figured Trek was safe and I already had a major spoiler revealed so might as well see it before it's all out there.
It was like the previous Abrams Trek movie, it tries too hard, but delivers very little, instead treks by on known and lesser known references to the old franchise. Lot of action to distract you from a mediocre plot made from recycled bits of better movies/episodes.
Lots of holes in terms of tech used (transporters or either amazing or useless, communications absurdly long range or jammed locally or both at once, shields in the fine Trek movie traditions are virtually non-existent)
I rate it 6 out of 10. Worth the $5 I paid, but that's about it.

I've been hearing bad things about this movie and I just don't feel the urge to go to the movies for it. I'll wait for it on home video.

I was gonna see it with this girl I liked, but we've already established it won't work, and has left me with a "I don't even care about seeing this movie anymore" feeling When it's on video, sure.

Its defenders say some people expected too much. If they were crapping these films out every 2 years, sure...whatever, but 4 years between movies...I'd expect something more than rehashed stuff and War on Terror allegories (especially when there's recent movies made about the actual stuff).
Anyway, it was still entertaining. To be honest, it's been awhile since any movie impressed me.

I just saw this.
I did enjoy the Earth coverage. But, but I really get tired of Star Fleet conspiracies by scumbag admirals. That plotline has been recycled far too many times during Trek lore. Karl Urban is great as Bones. Dr. Carol Marcus was a joke. Reminds me of Denise Richards as a a nuclear physicist in a Bond movie.
So, they reverse the Star Trek 2 scenario. Yeah, I was underwhelmed by that. Spock as an action hero was ok, though. For me, the first movie kind of got a pass for the references and callbacks, this one needed to push forward to new ground and didn't.

They can't push new ground; they have to coast on good feelings with tweeks and wink-winks. It makes me uneasy for Star Wars sequels, since the prequels were bad enough about retreads/homages/nods.
How did Admiral Badman hope to fight a war with the Klingons when he couldn't handle one rogue operative? Or detect Scotty snooping around his shipyard?
The bad admirals are always human, too. Were there non-humans at the command meeting? I can't remember. They seem to include alien starfleet personnel only at the most distracting moments.
There was all this griping about the shot of Carol Marcus in her undies. That was her best moment. Besides, Kirk has to be attracted to her, because they might have a kid or not.
The end bit was more callback bullshit. The next movie won't be about exploring, none of the Trek movies have been.
Next movie opens with:
"We just completed a five year mission..."
or "Recalled by Starfleet command from our planned five year mission..."
