Cobra Commander is the man of our times, a lying cult of personality type with fanatically devoted followers who lie, steal and cheat for him. One wonders why anyone would be that devoted to a person of questionable competence and/or intelligence, a man who asks for so much and gives little to nothing in return. much to Hama's dismay I'm sure, I read the comics with Sunbow voices in mind. LOL

Hama said in his mind, Cobra Commander sounded like William F. Buckley, but I just can't picture that at all. Buckley was an intellectual, and Cobra Commander is at best a pseudo-intellectual, learned but not cultured. CC retains knowledge but isn't wise. That's why he and Destro are at odds. Destro has intellectual wisdom, is cultured and from minor nobility. Destro rationalizes his evils. CC is a shrewd hustler from a middle class background. Or a multi-eyed freak from some ancient bio-engineering civilization. Either way, he relishes his evils.

The comic would slow to a crawl if you read Cobra Commander as a voice ala Buckley. I actually think both the Hama version and Sunbow version can somewhat work as vaguely the same guy. Some of the Hama speeches/rants he gives CC, I can just hear that Sunbow voice easily. Some of it can easily be dropped in as lines in a Sunbow episode. Yeah, the Cobra La stuff throws a wrench in it, but it still comes down to a guy who has megalomania and amassed a lot of power to try to impose his will.
