Five Cobras and five Joes...
Cobras of the moment...
1. Old Snake from Transformers - I like the idea that in the end, its Cobra Commander that endures even if Cobra goes by the wayside.
2. Tele-Viper - I like these guys because of the words appearing across their visors. Kind of reminded me of communication guys in sci-fi fiction, like those guys in sky city in Empire Strikes Back.
3. Baroness - I think she's great. The leather, the glasses. Cute and sexy and dangerous. Always trying to work schemes from below. Also, Destro, Cobra Commander, you need Baroness to give some expression to things.
4. Aero-Viper - Without the mask, he always reminded me of a thief/criminal. The Cobra Condor was very slick and I had to have it as a teen, even though I knew I was probably too old for it. LOL.
5. Zartan - I think he may be the single most visually interesting person in the entire line. Also, his gimmicks are unmatched. Color change. That rocks.
G.I. Joes of the moment...
1. Doc - I actually think Doc just looks cool with his glasses. Like, in terms of cool factor, he has it over other Joes. The shades are hard to top.
2. Low Light - Always one of my favs. A guy who has a bit of darkness in him.
3. Lifeline - In this case, version 5. The unshaven look is cool on him. That era of figs were interesting. Yet another Joe I wish I owned.
4. Cover Girl - I always thought she was kind of the one female Joe that got lost in the shuffle. I think the fact she could have lived a pretty easy life modeling, but chose this, that's speaks well of her character.
5. Flint - In terms of GIJoe "leaders" I like Flint more than the others. Had a bit of edge, seemed like more of a real person. He was relatable.

Five Cobras and five Joes... 2. Tele-Viper - I like these guys because of the words appearing across their visors. Kind of reminded me of communication guys in sci-fi fiction, like those guys in sky city in Empire Strikes Back. I'm reminded me of Ming's guys with visors from FLASH GORDON, and General Kala is The Baroness. So Baroness in charge of Tele-Vipers? Maybe. Those wave 5 of ARAH Collection are prone to yellowing unfortunately. Cartoon Flint was decent. Comic book Flint was mostly a stupid asshole (but somehow a Rhodes scholar?). That Lady Jaye liked him spoke less of her character.

I read up to issue 100 of the old comics. Hard for me to remember much to be honest. The toon has always imprinted on me above all. LOL

I will do top 5 Joe's and Cobras,
COBRA 1) COBRA COMMANDER, if I have to pick one version, its the chrome mask from 1982 and 1983. I just think that figure is so epic. I am also a huge fan of his hooded version. I also love the 1987 Battle Armor version because in the cartoon it proves CC survived the movie, and although it's a totally new design, the eyes alone look like Cobra Commander. I also love the hooded CC Battle Corps version. According to the comic CC has come back from the dead and survived every ordeal.
2) Destro, he is CC's partner in crime, yet they seem to hate each other more than G.I.Joe. I don't have a favorite figure of him, because none truly captured his cartoon appearance. A combination of version one and three I guess, but version two looks the best.
3) Baroness, probably the strongest female role in the series. She played a major part in the cartoon and the comic. And she's Destros babe.
4) Zartan, easily my favorite bad guy. When his skin turns blue, he almost looks like an alien. He's awesome in both the cartoon and the comic. I love how his voice sounds. His subgroup as leader of the Dreadnoks is such an awesome role. I could write an essay about why Zartan is my favorite.
5) The Crimson Guard. I just think these guys have the coolest uniforms and make for my favorite Cobra trooper. They look cool operating literally any vehicle.
JOE'S 1) Snake-Eyes version 1, 2 or 3, he really has always been my favorite, I don't care how popular he is. His appearance in the Mass Device is epic. When he saves the team from the red crystals by sacrificing himself, I thought he was dead. Then he escapes and finds Timber. I didn't start reading the comic until the series was in the 60's, and I was so happy to see his character involved in the comic in a big way.
2) Storm Shadow version 1 and 2, like Snake Eyes, I was stoked to find Storm Shadow having a major role in the comic. I love version 2 because he is just super cool, and I like him as a Joe, fighting with Snake Eyes by his side instead of against.
3) Stalker. When I discovered the earlier issues where he was in Nam with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow...it really brought back the nostalgia of 1982.
4) Jinx, just because I love my Ninja trio.
5) Scarlet, I love that she never leaves Snake-Eye's.
Bonus!!! QUICK KICK, he was funny and cool.
Roadblock was always a favorite, and I love that the Rock played him in the live action movie.

In terms of retro ninjas, the original Storm Shadow always looked epic to me. Great list, Felix.
I always liked 88 Destro, but the DIC toon kind of soured me on it. LOL

Storm Shadow version one is amazing. I absolutely love how he is drawn in the comic. In the cartoon, he is a bad guy through and through, but he has moments where he values his honor more than anything else. The head for him is kind of lame because his head is way too big. It's impossible for me to ignore.
The card art for Snake Eyes version one and three are my favorite. I was never a big fan of the visor. I really wish Snake Eyes version one had Stalkers feet instead of Flash's feet. It would have matched the card art better too.
I should just take Destro off my list, lol! Really, all my Cobra army needs is CC and some Crimson Guards.
I still have yet to watch any Dic episodes besides operation Dragonfire...I think I have seen a couple, but that's it.
Sometimes my favorite Joe's are the Renegades. It's that simple :-) I really wanted to do 12inch customs for them.. maybe one day ;-)

I don't know if have any favorites at the moment.
I like Cobra Commander, but 1980's CC. Hama lost his way with the character. A walking thesaurus more interested in arm's sales and rivalry with Destro than anything else.
Baroness, Storm Shadow, Destro and Zartan all suffered from getting reformed, then brainwashed and who's side are they on how? I don't even know. I'd rather bad guys be killed off then switch sides constantly.
Cobra: 1. Cobra Commander, because he was more relatable. Serpentor is hard to use and Overlord is a non-entity. I do have the problem that there's no single great CC figure in any format. They never remade V1 with a new head, so it's vintage beaked visor for ARAH purists or chose a later uniform. New sculpt was problematic. Modern era claimed to make a great V1 one I never saw at retail, but it's quite big even by modern standards. 2. Major Bludd, was never ruined as a character. But he also never got V1 with an articulated right arm.
Troops...I can find dissatisfaction with most troop types. But that's how I feel about things right now...dissatisfied.

The blue and purple on follow up Major Bludd figs was sad. He's solid, but not too much of an interesting character to me.
The only figure of his I like is v1. The new sculpt figs are very flawed.

I like the 2001 Major Bludd. But I am with Swindle, not a big fan of his character.
You're right Bravo, when CC came back to life in the comics he was a "walking thesaurus", lol!
Star Viper is probably my single most favorite Cobra. He looks incredibly cool. In the comic book tv commercial Chris Latta did his voice which just makes the character extremely interesting to me...I believe that he was originally supposed to be Cobra Commander. The black and gold on his uniform matches the Iron Grenadiers which furthers my conspiracy theory that that group was meant to actually be C.O.I.L. before Sunbow left production.
Hit & Run, I just loved the toy...and his file card. I like him because he 100% camouflaged and was fun to play with. He had climbing gear, never had the parachute version...but he felt like the right Joe for me.
Dusty 1991, it's like we almost got the perfect Flint figure...but still, he just looks so cool.
Battle Corps Shipwreck, they actually made Shipwreck a SEAL. I feel like after Duke dies in the movie, he doesn't just inspire Falcon to step up, but other Joe's too, and Shipwreck plays a big part in becoming an actual leader.
Quick Kick, he was funny...very funny, and kicked ass. It was a bummer they killed him off in the comic. My favorite moments with Quick Kick are in the Pyramid of Darkness when Storm Shadow tells he he shall learn a hard lesson, then he beats up like 6 Crimson Guards like nothing and says, "You were saying, teacher?" My other favorite moment is in the movie during the snow battle and Duke is pinned down by the Dreadnoks. Snow job says, "Man with a problem Quick Kick!" And he replies, "What are friends for?" As he launches rockets from the Havoc into the small army of Dreadnoks. You just feel the loyalty the Joe's all have for each other.

Yeah, Bludd lacks a definitive great figure (because they refuse to do v1 with a fully articulated right arm). I don't buy into the Chinese Bludd that fans liked. Lamprey shoes and Flagg's jacket?

My favorite vehicles at the moment are the Crusader and the Cobra Bugg.
The Crusader is awesome, makes me want a Defiant...but there seems to be so many problems with that toy, too many loose parts, and yellowing. The Crusader was also pre Star Brigade, and looks realistic.
The Bugg is super cool, I always wanted one...maybe one day.

My grandma got me and my brother a Cobra Bugg each for Christmas. That was pretty cool at the time to have double of two big vehicles.
Favorite Cobra Vehicle - The Condor. The splitting into two gimmick was simple, but fun. It was a slick design as well. Very visually pleasing and the pilot was cool.
Favorite Joe vehicle of the moment - The R.H.I.N.O. That thing is a beast. Shows Hasbro can still design neat stuff later in the game.

The R.H.I.N.O. is awesome. Reminds me of how much I liked Sigma6.
The W.H.A.L.E. is probably my new favorite vehicle of the moment for the Joe's ;-) It's a good balance for the Bugg. I would still like to make a custom Arctic W.H.A.L.E.

I miss having a BUGG. I liked it held some guys, wasn't too huge and had the detachable vehicles, though I rarely had use for the submarine bod. The Moray is great, my brother and I used them as some sort of skiff/aircraft gunships at some point (the Joes existed in a world with star wars, robotech, etc) they made up for the lack of air transport. It was just too cool a vehicle to let sit (we lived in dry ass Oklahoma, so outside of a bathtub, no where to use them...pretend the floor is water...meh.) Actually, used the Water Moccasins the same way. But not the devilfish...somehow harder to make believe outboard engines are hover powering...whatever...)
Joes: I dunno. Most of the Jeeps/dune buggys and APCS are good. I haven't dug my RHINO out in years.

I always used that sub pod as a time machine when I was a kid.
A lot of my joe stuff is in the back room. Its a chore to go back there and dig something out. Part of the reason I don't take much pics lately. I am going to try to be more active, though.
I do have some new Joe stuff for me coming in the mail.
